Windsor Park stallions dominate in Hong Kong!

Windsor Park barn-mates ShamExpress (O’Reilly) and Turn Me Loose (Iffraaj) really lit up Hong Kong racing on Sunday when their respective sons, Ka Ying Rising and Karma featured with hugely impressive performances.

Ka Ying Rising (ShamExpress) once again flashed his mouthwatering potential with a spectacular performance in the Gr.2 Premier Bowl (1,200m) winning his seventh race from nine starts and turning the feature race on the program into a one-horse procession as he cruised to his sixth victory on the bounce.

The David Hayes-trained four-year-old was prominent throughout and swept to the lead 200m from home with a blistering turn of foot, to register a length-and-a-half win over top class stakes winner Helios Express (Toronado) with multiple international Gr.1 winner California Spangle (Starspangledbanner) in third position.

“Zac (Purton) came in and said ‘When do you want to break the track record?’,” beamed Hayes after Ka Ying Rising stopped the clock just seven-hundredths of a second outside Sacred Kingdom’s record of 1:07.50 set in 2007.

“At $1.30 he probably should win like that, but it was a quality field and he just has such class. He’s just so streetwise – he’s a very special horse”, said Hayes who also confirmed Ka Ying Rising will tackle the Gr.2 Jockey Club Sprint (1,200m) on November 17 and the Gr.1 Hong Kong Sprint (1,200m) on December 8, before stepping up to the Classic Mile on January 31.

Bred by respected horseman and trainer Fraser Auret, Ka Ying Rising is out of the Per Incanto mare Missy Moo.

“We were actually doing a bit of work for Windsor Park at the time and Shamexpress has always done a great job,” recalls Auret. “He has got some amazing stats, so it was a very easy decision to send Missy Moo to him.”

“He was a really cracking foal, especially for a first foal. All the way through to the breaking in, he always had that really professional, natural racehorse mentality,” Auret said.

“He went to the jump outs and was mightily impressive and was then sold privately just on the back of that.”

Auret then elected to send Missy Moo back to Windsor Park successful stallion Turn Me Loose and was just as pleased with the resulting foal, who has followed the exact same path as his year older half-brother.

“He (Turn Me Loose gelding) has gone exactly the same way,” Auret said. “He was also sold to Lindsay Park and he had one trial in Melbourne for a win and he is just coming out of quarantine up in Hong Kong at the moment.

“Like a lot of brothers, you never really know if they are going to be that similar, but the Turn Me Loose was an absolutely strapping horse as well, so I am sure he is going on to bigger and brighter things.”

ShamExpress also sired the promising Tony Pike trained galloper Overdrawn who scored back to back wins at Ellerslie on Saturday as he makes his progression through the grades towards black-type company.

“It’s nice to see him put two together the way he has and he could go to a new level if he continues to improve.

“He has now won a Rating 65 and a Rating 75 in successive starts and will line-up here again in a Rating 75 1400m on Melbourne Cup Day and try for three wins in a row at headquarters,” Pike said.

While Karma (Turn Me Loose) possesses a different style of racing to Ka Ying Rising, the strapping son of Turn Me Loose really turned heads when coming from near last position to storm home and notch his third victory from his past four starts.

Karma improved his career record to 5 wins from 15 starts with the Gr.3 Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse (1,800m) on November 3 shaping as the six-year-old’s next target.

“That was a good effort,” said trainer Caspar Fownes. “I’ll have a think about going to the Sa Sa with a light weight now.

“He’ll eat up the 1,800m, that’s what he’s looking for, and maybe even further,” said Fownes.

Turn Me Loose has enjoyed an exceptional period of success in the past three weeks siring 11 individual winners with his Group winning daughter Wessex chiming in with a close-fought third placing in the Taranaki Breeders Stakes.

Both ShamExpress and Turn Me Loose will be showcased with boutique drafts at the 2024 edition of the New Zealand Bloodstock 2YO Ready To Run sale at Karaka on November 20 & 21.
