STAR ON THE RISE FOR CHARM SPIRIT

Showing the same resolute qualities of his triple Gr.1 winning sire Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit), highclass Australian sprinter Sansom produced an exhilarating fresh up performance to win the Gr.3 Bletchingly S. at Caulfield on Saturday.

In the final Group race of the Australian racing season, the son of Charm Spirit and Fastnet Rock mare Bryony finished resolutely from midfield to wear down dual Gr.1 winner Streets Of Avalon (Magnus) for a meritorious victory.

Champion trainer Phillip Stokes produced Sansom in superb form for his first run for five months and now has this Spring’s $1 million Gr.1 Toorak H. on the radar for his 9-times winner.

“He’s in for a very good prep”, said Stokes ““He’s a ripper of a racehorse and if we can get him out over a mile we might be able to get him to a Toorak or something like that.”

The Gr.1 Toorak H. is set down for October 9 with Stokes suggesting that the Gr.2 PB Lawrence S. over 1400 metres on August 14 could be the next step towards that target.

Bought by Stokes for $140,000 from the 2018 Gold Coast Yearling Sales, Sansom has won 9 races from 21 starts and in excess of $525,000, including at Flemington last November in the Gr.3 Chatham S.

Sansom has contributed to a very successful season for Invincible Spirit’s triple Gr.1-winning miler and is one of five Southern Hemisphere Group winners to date for Charm Spirit, alongside FascinoArethaScorpz and Lilikoi.

Charm Spirit has sired 50 winners in the Southern Hemisphere since August 1, a list that  also includes 27 winners from just 44 runners in Australia.

Charm Spirit’s versatility was emphasised recently with unbeaten 2YO filly Catsacharmer gracing the winners circle at Te Rapa. Trainer Allan Sharrock has her aimed at this Saturday’s Listed Ryder S. at Otaki.
