Melbourne Carnival Group winner for Charm Spirit

Impressive young sire Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit) confirmed his class among an outstanding group of emerging stallion talent, when striking his second Group winning blow from his first southern hemisphere 3YO crop at the weekend.

Already Charm Spirit has sired nine individual Australasian first crop 3YO winners, headlined by Saturday’s Melbourne Carnival Gr.2 Fillies Classic winner Fascino and recent Gr.3 Hawkes Bay Gold Trail Stakes winner Aretha.

A $400,000 yearling, Fascino continued her improvement from her previous start when she was a close runnerup in the Gr.2 Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington.

“It’s very exciting for a young stallion to be throwing successful carnival horses in his first 3YO crop,” commented Steve Till, general manager for Windsor Park Stud where the triple Gr.1 winning son of champion sire Invincible Spirit stands.

“While he was a Gr.1 performed 2YO, Charm Spirit really hit his straps as an Autumn 3YO in Europe, winning three consecutive Gr.1 1600m races on his final three starts.

“The way his progeny hold their form and improve suggests they’ll get better as they mature and they seem to be managing that as they step up in distance as well.”

In addition to Fascino and Aretha, Charm Spirit also has exciting 3YO son Heirborn representing him.

Anthony Freedman trained Heirborn followed up winning his first two starts with an impressive fast finishing third in the Listed Gothic Stakes at Caulfield on Cup day, where he ran the fastest 1200m of the day.

Heirborn, runs this weekend at Flemington in the $500,000 Gr.3 Carbine Club Stakes over 1600m together with two other last start-winning sons of Charm Spirit, Moreno and Kavalmo.

Both Sydney winner Moreno and Kavalmo hail from the stable of Chris Waller while Charm Spirit’s smart Melbourne winning son Sansom is trained by Phillip Stokes.
Charm Spirit has seven 2YO’s catalogued for next month’s NZ Bloodstock Ready To Run Sale at Karaka including a half-brother to 2018 Gr.3 New Zealand Cup winner Bizzwinkle, a son of High Chaparral’s Gr.1 Auckland Cup placegetter Chaparrone and a colt from Galway, a sister to dual 2018 Australian Gr.1 winner Shillelagh.
