CHARM SPIRIT MARCHING TO TOP

26 SEP 19 | WPS

With six individual 3YO winners already to kick off the new season, including last weekend’s Group winning filly Aretha, 2019 Leading Freshman Sire Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit) has continued his impressive start at stud.

Saturday's Gold Trail Stakes winner - Aretha
A leading 2YO last season, Aretha opened her 3YO campaign at Hastings at the weekend in a highclass renewal of the Gr.3 Gold Trail Stakes, the first race in the prestigious NZ Bloodstock Filly Of The Year series.

Showing all the qualities reminiscent of her exciting young sire, Aretha jumped so well she led the field from the outset in the 1200m event, repelling all challenges to register a hard-fought victory.

Aretha has lost none of the courage she displayed as a 2YO when in four starts she included success in the Gr.2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes, Gr.1 placings in the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes and Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie and a debut third placing in the Gr.2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes at Trentham.
Unbeaten Australian 3YO - Heirborn
In Australia, Charm Spirit’s unbeaten 3YO son Heirborn, a winner at Flemington prior to having a short break, is scheduled to resume his campaign in the Listed Gothic Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on October 19th.

Also on track for black-type spoils in Australia this Spring is Charm Spirit’s smart daughter Fascino, who followed up her 3YO debut win with an unlucky fourth in the Listed Jim Moloney Stakes at Caulfield last weekend.

Currently lying in second position on the three-year-old sires list and with numerous promising young racehorses to represent him, triple Gr.1 winning miler Charm Spirit looks well placed to again occupy a prominent position among the leading sires at stud this season.
