EVENTSTARS

Rehoming Off-The-Track Racehorses into Sporthorse Homes

'EventStars' was set up for several reasons. Firstly, to cater for the gap in the sporthorse market for accurately represented, well priced young horses (primarily thoroughbreds straight off the track). Once 'test driven' on the flat and over small fences, my horses are aimed at whichever discipline they have shown aptitude towards - be it showing, dressage, show hunter, show jumping, eventing, hunting or just being a happy hack. Secondly, to assist in rehoming the massive overflow of young thoroughbreds off the track. New Zealand has a huge thoroughbred industry, and every week dozens of youngsters are retired from the track and seeking urgent homes. I am lucky enough to have the support of many of the trainers & studs in the Waikato region, who provide me with sound and sane ex-racehorses. Most of them enjoy hearing where the horses end up and follow their next careers with interest. EventStars also has the contract with the Hong Kong Jockey Club to rehome many of their retired horses from Hong Kong, and I also privately rehome for a couple of owners in Hong Kong. EventStars currently operates from 'Balmoral' on Kaipaki Rd, Cambridge My husband and I purchased this property in 2010 - it was previously used for drystock and thoroughbred grazing. We have re-fenced (black 4 rail with electrics), converted the 4 bay shed into tie-ups, stables & tack room, and put in a large sand arena, covered day yards, a loading ramp, some large sand yards and a few small XC fences. As it is virtually across the road from our house, it is very handy - and with sandy loam soil it is well draining and very fertile. Keep an eye on the horses coming up for sale (via Facebook is your best bet) - you may just spot your next potential star or project! BEYOND THE BARRIERS

Thoroughbreds: Thoroughly Versatile

Beyond the Barriers NZ is a non-profit organisation whose purpose is to promote the versatility and suitability of retired racehorses as pleasure and sporthorses within New Zealand in a way which is beneficial for both the Thoroughbred and sporthorse industries. Aimed at raising awareness about the successful transition of the New Zealand thoroughbred into equestrian careers and ultimately increase their re-homing opportunities, Beyond the Barriers NZ was formed in 2014 by Gina Schick and Nicky Wallace, who are both dedicated to increasing the opportunities for the New Zealand thoroughbred beyond a racing career. "Beyond the Barriers NZ provides a forum to educate and communicate with people who may be able to provide suitable post-racing homes for thoroughbreds, as well as those in the sporthorse industry who want to become involved in the TB industry " - Gina Schick
