Creggs Pipes provided her sire Rip Van Winkle (Galileo) with his second Group winner in successive weekends when victorious in the Gr.2 Lanwades Stud Stakes at the prestigious ‘Guineas’ meeting at the Curragh in Ireland at the weekend.
The previous weekend, Gr.3 Rotorua Stakes winner Let Her Rip became Rip Van Winkle’s sixth individual Group winning filly or mare in the southern hemisphere.
Let Her Rip’s success highlights an exceptional strike rate for her sire of 14.6% Group winners to runners from just forty one first-crop female starters, a crop that includes Australian Group winners Euro Angel and First Impressions and New Zealand Group winners Capella, Lasarla and Magic Dancer.
Undoubtedly Rip Van Winkle’s highly talented daughter Let Me Roar, winner of six of seven races and Group placed at her final start, is another who would have added further to the list but for an untimely career-ending injury this season.
Rip Van Winkle, whose oldest New Zealand conceived progeny are 4YO’s, will stand the 2017 season at Windsor Park Stud for $10,000 + GST.
