Time called on Let Me Roar
02 May 2017 | By Breeding & Racing

Connections of prodigiously talented mare Let Me Roar (Rip Van Winkle-Lioness, by Generous) have been left to ponder what might have been reports NZ Racing Desk.

The curtain has come down on her brief, but successful career and the well-related 4YO will be a valuable addition to Windsor Park Stud's broodmare band.

"She's had a lot of leg issues and they've finally got to her," said Andrew Forsman, who trains in partnership with Murray Baker.

"There have been niggling problems all the way through with her. It's a real shame as she was so brilliant."

Forsman added: "It makes you wonder how good she could have been, it's scary to think what she could have done."

A half-sister to ill-fated Victoria Derby winner Lion Tamer, Let Me Roar won 6 of her 7 starts with her only defeat resulting in a close third in the Gr.2 Easter Stakes at Ellerslie.

Owned by Windsor Park Stud, Let Me Roar is a daughter of Champion European Miler Rip Van Winkle from the Generous mare Lioness and counts as her third dam Blue Denim, a three-time Gr.1 winner of the Auckland Cup, AJC Queens Elizabeth Stakes and STC Tancred Stakes (now known as the Gr1 The BMW).
