Euphoria sends message to Classic rivals
31 Oct 2016 | By Dennis Ryan, The Informant

Trainer Rachel Frost will decide on Monday whether to back up her impressive Motukarara winner Euphoria (Rip Van Winkle) in next Saturday’s Gr.1 Sothys New Zealand 2000 Guineas.

Euphoria stepped up from a Tauherenikau maiden win to down smart Canterbury filly Zigwig in a Rating 65 1400-metre race at today’s Bank Peninsula meeting.

The Rip Van Winkle filly is entered for both Group One three-year-old classics at the New Zealand Cup carnival, but which one she starts in is at this stage uncertain.

“There’s a bit of rain around so we’ll make our mind up Monday if we back her up on Saturday against the boys or wait a week for the 1000 Guineas,” Otaki trainer Racheal Frost told www.theinformant.co.nz. “I’d rather see her run against the fillies on the last day at Riccarton, but if it was to rain this week it might slow up a few of the boys.”

Euphoria was the second of two winners from as many Frost-trained starters at Motukarara after debutant Redefine had won the fourth race on the card. Both were ridden by Kelly McCullough in her first day back after being stood down with concussion from a fall at Ruakaka earlier this month.
