Rip’s Euro Angel a top-class filly

Champion jockey Dwayne Dunn expects boom filly Euro Angel (Rip Van Winkle) to continue her upwards trajectory in Saturday’s Rivette Series Final (1600m) at Flemington.

Related to Group 2 winners Polish Knight and Leebaz, the well-bred filly (by Rip Van Winkle out of Polish Princess) was absolutely dominant first-up and takes on a similar field again in the $120,000 event.

CrownBet rates her a $1.95 chance - and Dunn hopes she can use this as a launching pad for bigger and better things.

“She’s got a super pedigree, she trialled really well and that’s the way she went when she won at 1400m with Ben Thompson,” Dunn said.

“(She’s) drawn barrier one with a big weight, but the weights are compressed.

“I think she’ll get to 2000m, 2400m eventually - she’s a little bit sharper than the rest of the family but she’s got a big future.

“She’s a top-class filly and hopefully she can go to a lot higher level than this.”

It could be a big day for Dunn, who is chasing his first Victorian metropolitan premiership title.

With seven city meetings remaining, he’s five wins clear of Craig Williams and has a strong hand on Saturday.

He’s got a ride in all nine races - with Reldas ($11), the only one with double-digit odds.

“I’d be happy to come out the other side five (wins ahead), but I’ve got nice rides and Craig has as well,” Dunn said.

“As I’ve always said, you’ve just got to execute the ride properly and the winners come and the rest looks after itself.”
