Rip Van Winkle furthers Galileo success
17 Jun 2016 | By Racenews

Among legendary sire Galileo’s 219 stakes winners (12.7% SW/Runners), 56 have enjoyed elite level success.

Yesterday at Royal Ascot, Galileo sired his latest Group One winner when Order Of St George won the prestigious showpiece event, the Ascot Gold Cup.

Order Of St George provided Galileo with his first winner of the Gold Cup with another of his sons Mizzou finishing in second position.

A short while later in Ireland Galileo’s influence was to the fore again when Dick Whittington, a son of Galileo’s champion racehorse Rip Van Winkle, demonstrated the quality and versatility of this sireline with victory in the Gr.3 Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown.

A Gr.1 winning 2YO Dick Whittington is a first-crop son of Rip Van Winkle who last weekend sired the impressive Australian winners Euro Angel and Awoke as well as recent Melbourne winner War legend.

Rip Van Winkle’s oldest Southern Hemisphere progeny are 3YO's and his successful season also includes Group winners Capella (Eight Carat Classic) and First Impressions (WA Oaks) and the unbeaten 4-time winner Let Me Roar.

Rip Van Winkle is Galileo's second highest rated son behind the mighty Frankel and he will stand at Windsor Park Stud, Cambridge this Spring for a service fee of $12,500 + GST.
