Two Derby winners, two world class milers and a brilliant Gr.1 winning Australian sprinter headline Windsor Park’s stallion roster for 2016.
With the recent running of The Derby, Europe’s most prestigious classic race, together with the upward rise of young sire sensation Tavistock (Montjeu), Windsor Park Stud are delighted to confirm that Montjeu’s sensational Epsom Derby winner Pour Moi will stand at the Cambridge based farm this coming Spring.
Stud manager Rodney Schick told ANZ Bloodstock News that Pour Moi is the perfect fit for Windsor Park Stud, who have enjoyed success standing Derby winners in the past. “We are delighted to have Pour Moi returning to Windsor Park this spring - his win in the Epsom Derby was incredible, it was a performance that demonstrates a level of talent that is rarely seen,” Schick said. “In the past Windsor Park has enjoyed great success standing Derby winners like his sire Montjeu and High Chaparral. Pour Moi has made great start with his first two-year-old runners and adds another dimension to our already powerful roster.”
Bred on same cross as English Derby winner and former Windsor Park sire High Chaparral, Pour Moi was notably popular in the sale-ring this year with his yearlings selling up to $360,000.
Pour Moi shuttled to Windsor Park for two seasons and from his first Southern Hemisphere crop 2YO’s he has sired the exciting Sacred Elixir, winner of the Gr.1 JJ Atkins Stakes at Eagle Farm last weekend.
Pour Moi also recently sired Irish Gr.3 winner Only Mine from his first Northern Hemisphere crop. His 2016 service fee has been set at $17,500 plus GST.
Windsor Park are also proud that together with the Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Group they will be standing the champion galloper Mongolian Khan on their 2016 roster.
The history maker Mongolian Khan is the first horse to win the trio of time-honoured Gr.1 races – the Caulfield Cup, ATC Australian Derby and New Zealand Derby – with his success in these great races earning him the titles of New Zealand Horse Of The Year and Champion Three-Year-Old.
A son of Danehill’s highest rated 2YO Holy Roman Emperor, the outstanding looking Mongolian Khan commences stallion duties this Spring at a fee of $10,000.
Windsor Park’s European triple Gr.1 winning miler Charm Spirit, the highest earning son of super sire Invincible Spirit, returns from Haras De Bonneval stud farm for his second season. Charm Spirit’s placement on the Aga Khan’s stallion roster at Bonneval confirms the huge international regard in which he is held, all the while underlining the wonderful opportunity being afforded him at stud in both hemispheres.
Embraced by breeders in both Australia and New Zealand, Charm Spirit served a full book of quality mares in his first season at Windsor Park last year and will stand for a fee of $22,500.
World Champion 3YO & 4YO miler Rip Van Winkle, the second highest rated son of legendary sire Galileo, joins fellow European Gr.1 winners Charm Spirit and Pour Moi at Windsor Park.
With his first Australasian crop now 3YO’s, Rip Van Winkle has sired Group winners Capella (Eight Carat Classic) and First Impressions (WA Oaks), unbeaten filly Let Me Roar (4 wins), smart Sydney galloper Euro Angel and 2YO stakes winner Magic Dancer among a host of promising gallopers.
The fee for Rip Van Winkle, also sire of European Gr.1 winner and Royal Ascot entrant Dick Whittington, has been set at $12,500.
Completing Windsor Park’s stellar line-up is O’Reilly’s brilliant Newmarket-winning Aussie sprinter ShamExpress, whose tremendous finishing speed carried him to a resounding victory in Australia’s most highly regarded sprint race.
A physically imposing stallion, the Australian Gr.1 winner has stamped his first-crop foals with his own outstanding qualities, their popularity confirmed by his weanlings selling up to A$120,000 in Sydney this year. The 2016 fee for ShamExpress is $12,500.
