Classy two-year-old Sacred Elixir (Pour Moi) is on track to contest black-type features during the Queensland winter carnival.
Sacred Elixir kicked off his Queensland campaign with a comfortable win on the Sunshine Coast yesterday.
The Tony Pike-trained two-year-old was backed into $2.20 favouritism and produced a classy performance in the A$60,000 event over 1400 metres.
Ridden by Damien Browne, Sacred Elixir came from off the pace and overpowered his rivals down the straight. Untroubled by his 58-kilogram topweight, he cruised to victory by a length and a quarter.
Australian bookmakers now rate Sacred Elixir an $11 chance for the Gr. 1 J J Atkins over 1600 metres at Eagle Farm on June 11. He may also run in the Gr. 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes over 1350 metres at Doomben on May 28.
A gelding by Pour Moi out of a granddaughter of Horlicks in Baltika, Sacred Elixir has now had four starts for two wins and a second. His only unplaced performance was a fast-finishing sixth in the Karaka Million.
