13 May 2016 | By Racenews

The popularity of the first-crop weanlings by brilliant Aussie sprinter ShamExpress (O’Reilly) carried on from the Inglis Sales in Sydney last week to the New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling Sale at Karaka this week.

The first weanling to be offered by the Gr.1 Newmarket Handicap winner was sold for A$120,000 in Sydney to international agent Michael Wallace’s Waterford Bloodstock while at Karaka the fastest son of champion sire O’Reilly was credited with the Leading First Season Sire title.

Besides winning the Newmarket (1200m), ShamExpress finished runnerup in the Gr.1 VRC Lightning Stakes (1000m) and Gr.1 VRC Sprint Classic (1200m), also placing third in the Gr.1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m), fourth in the Gr.1 ATC All Aged Stakes and fifth in the Gr.1 MVRC William Reid Stakes (1200m), to confirm his position among Australia’s best sprinters.

A resident sire at Windsor Park Stud, Cambridge, the physically imposing ShamExpress is scheduled to cover his third book of mares this Spring at a service fee of $12,500+GST.
