Pour Moi’s son earns Sires’ start

Kiwi raider Sacred Elixir (Pour Moi) landed a plunge ($3.8 - $2.50) in the Bundaberg Rum 2YO Handicap at the Sunshine Coast yesterday winning by a comfortable 1.3 lengths and earning a crack at the upcoming major 2YO winter races in Brisbane.

Sacred Elixir was last seen attacking the line in the Karaka Millions when unsuited in a leader dominated race.

“He is a lovely horse that will improve with time and racing. He (jockey Damien Browne) really rode him a treat today which allowed him to finish off strongly,” said Don Sellwood, representing trainer Tony Pike.

“Tony has had a very good opinion of him since early days and feels he will be a much better horse as a 3YO and likely over further.

“We will let him get over today and then go on to the Sires’ followed by the JJ Atkins.”

The Tab firmed Sacred Elixir from $21 to $9 for the Sires’ after today’s dominant win.

“He is by far the best horse I will ride today,” commented Browne.

“There was a little bit of bustling around early but we managed to avoid most of it, I just tried to get him to settle early and he was able to let down nicely in the straight.

“He is really a nice horse that will improve with racing and as the trips get further and I think he will return a pretty smart 3YO.”
