Exciting three year old filly First Impressions (Rip Van Winkle), winner of the Gr.3 West Australian Oaks at her last start, is in the final field for the Gr.2 West Australian Derby to be run at Ascot in Perth this weekend.

Purchased for $270,000 at the 2014 NZ Bloodstock Premier sale, First Impressions was the highest priced filly from the first Southern Hemisphere-bred crop of yearlings for champion miler Rip Van Winkle (Galileo).

Bred by DG & RB McLaren Ltd, First Impressions is the second foal of the Gr.1 performed racemare Striker (Van Nistelrooy), a half-sister to New Zealand Champion Sprinter/Miler Calveen (Canny Lad).
