Melbourne double for the Mastercraftsman
24 Dec 2015 | By Racenews

A winning double at Sandown in Melbourne yesterday capped an excellent run for European Champion Sire Mastercraftsman.

Four-year-old mare Spectacular Vision (Mastercraftsman) confirmed her staying promise when finishing brilliantly over 2400m to record her second win, and first since finishing second to multiple Gr.1 winner Delicacy in the West Australian Oaks.

Exciting four-year-old Spreadeagled (Mastercraftsman) followed up a short while later over 1600m to register his second win from two starts for trainer Robert Smerdon.

Spreadeagled also finished strongly and looks to have a bright future for his connections who hold the son of Mastercraftsman in high regard.

Meanwhile, on the prestigious Hong Kong International Day undercard another first crop son of Mastercraftsman, Happilababy, looked a future Hong Kong Derby prospect when successful over 1800m. Happilababy had won his only start in New Zealand when racing as Hymatsu.

Mastercraftsman, who has sired 13 stakes horses in his first NZ conceived crop, has 48 yearlings catalogued for sale at next month’s NZ Bloodstock National Yearling Sales series at Karaka.
