Rip Van Winkle filly impresses
19 Aug 2015 | By Racenews

Having just her third raceday start, and first as a 3YO, NZ-bred Rip Van Winkle filly Killer Woman looked a smart prospect when winning comfortably at Scottsville in South Africa at the weekend.

Following two promising juvenile performances Killer Woman, trained by Tony Rivalland, was strongly favoured in the 1400m contest and rewarded her owner Mary Liley with a taking performance.

Liley, who formerly raced leading NZ-bred South African gallopers Bold Monarch and Sun Monarch, purchased Killer Woman for $170,000 from Windsor Park Stud’s 2014 Premier Sale yearling draft at Karaka.

“That was a top win today”, commented Rivalland. “She is definitely on the up and will get better over a longer trip”.

“She was a little immature as a two-year-old but has strengthened and showed a touch of class with the way she quickened up”.

Rip Van Winkle, whose first crop includes Gr.1 winning 2YO colt Dick Whittington and Group winning fillies Magic Dancer and I Am Beautiful, recently arrived at Windsor Park Stud, Cambridge where he is based for the southern hemisphere breeding season.
