Sir Robert Ogden’s home-bred Amazing Maria (4f Mastercraftsman-Messias Da Silva, by Tale Of The Cat) confirmed herself one of Europe’s best fillies of 2015 when seeing off a top-class field to win the Gr.1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville on Sunday.
The David O’Meara-trained filly had already won the Gr.1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket and Gr.2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes this season before heading to France.
Settled midfield as the race progressed, Amazing Maria rattled through the gears close to home to reel in the favourite Ervedya (Siyouni) and score by a length and a quarter.
“She was unbelievable today,” O’Meara told TDN. “She is obviously a very good filly and you’d have to say she’s among the best fillies in Europe now.”
Jockey Olivier Peslier, who won the race four times aboard Goldikova, was similarly full of praise for his mount, adding: “She lives up to her name. I had hardly moved on her two furlongs out and when she was in the clear, and I asked her, she quickened and did it very easily.”
