Royal Ascot success for Mastercraftsman
18 Jun 2015 | By Racenews

Yesterday’s Royal Ascot results continued the excellent run of black-type success for Windsor Park Stud shuttle sire Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer).

Mastercraftsman’s daughter Amazing Maria was successful the Gr.2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes while his son The Grey Gatsby finished second in the Gr.1 feature Prince of Wales’s Stakes.

Amazing Maria came from last position to defeat her opponents by 2 lengths while The Grey Gatsby, who also enjoyed the prevailing firm ground conditions, finished strongly for a short half-head second to Free Eagle, a son of former Windsor Park shuttle sire High Chaparral. Western Hymn, also by High Chaparral, filled third position in the Gr.1 race.

The Grey Gatsby, who won the Gr.1 French Derby last year, was considered unlucky not to win the Gr.1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes as he was continually denied a run until well inside the final furlong.

Mastercraftsman, whose fourth Southern Hemisphere crop are now foals, has sired 12 SH first-crop stakes horses to date including Gr.2 VRC Wakeful Stakes winner and Gr.1 VRC Oaks second Thunder Lady.

Group-winning fillies Thee Auld Floozie and Choice are also members of Mastercraftsman’s first SH crop as are Upham and Master Of Arts, first and third respectively in the recent Gr.2 BRC Grand Prix Stakes.
