The Soubrettes (High Chaparral) team joined forces for further Riccarton success this afternoon as Tricoteuse (Guillotine) scored by a wide margin in the Hynds Pipe Systems Maiden.
Owners Octagon Bloodstock Limited, trainers Mandy and Matt Brown and jockey David Walsh teamed up at the same venue back in November for a dazzling win by star sprinter Soubrettes in the Gr. 3 Stewards’ Stakes.
Today they were together again, this time with the striking grey filly Tricoteuse. While a $10,000 maiden event is hardly in the same league as the Stewards’, the three-year-old’s win this afternoon was an electrifying performance in its own right.
Tricoteuse appeared to be doing everything with ease throughout the 1400-metre event and was cruising as she rounded the home turn with a narrow advantage. Then she changed gears, leaving her rivals standing still and bounding away to win by an ever-expanding five and a half lengths.
The time was 1:25.80 on a track rated Slow8.
Having cleared maidens at the second time of asking following a debut fifth at Timaru last month, the future appears bright for the daughter of Guillotine and the Star Way mare Clearbrook Lane. The filly’s dam is a half-sister to Group One winner Arlingtonboulevard.
