Following an impressive start with his first European 2YO crop that included Gr.1 winner Dick Whittington, Galileo’s top class son Rip Van Winkle has sired a new stakes winner early in the 2015 European racing season.
Progressive 3YO filly Princess Charm (ex Gold Charm by Key Of Luck) finished strongly from off the pace to win the Listed Prix Rose de Mai over 2,000m at Saint-Cloud in Paris taking her race record to 3 wins and 2 placings from only 6 starts.
“She showed good quality last year and had done well over the winter,” commented trainer Carlos Lerner. “She was not quite ready at Deauville (seasonal debut), but that race helped her prepare for today. We now have to move up again in class and go for a Group race, but it’s too early to decide which one.”
Princess Charm holds engagements in the Gr.1 Prix Saint-Alary and Gr.1 Prix Diane (French Oaks) later in the season.
While the new racing season is just commencing in Europe, Rip Van Winkle has already sired 5 individual 3YO winners including Winklemann, winner of the Premio Donatello on debut in Rome recently.
Rip Van Winkle’s first southern hemisphere 2YO crop to race includes Gr.3 winner Magic Dancer and last week’s impressive Matamata winner Let Her Rip.
